Swimming Lessons

Wanted to do a cute penguin comic because everybody loves penguins! Tried some new techniques for water.

Had this guy sketched out, decided to take it a step further and ink and color him digitally. Just a simple character, quick piece (2.5 hours). Experimented a bit with photo textures in the background. I like his personality, he might pop back up in a comic or something later on.

Bass Kid

Had been sketching all night and decided to go to bed. After about ten minutes I thought of this guy and had to sketch him down quickly so I would remember . After a few different iterations this is what that idea turned into. Trying to incorporate secondary light sources. Hands are always challenging but I'm currently pleased with how this guys hands look. Ive been trying to draw more humans.

Day Job

I love retro games and its always fun to turn there for subject matter. This started as a sketchy cartoon but turned into  more of a polished one. Although not as polished as it could be.

I used to love doing portraits. I had gotten away from them for a while so I decided it was a good time to try one again. This is my version of Radaghast the Brown, from the Lord of the Rings novels. Blending clean and loose styles together somewhat. I just have a lot of fun when I do portraits.

Planet Eater

Felt like a more graphic piece today. A Humanoid and his pet looking back on their home planet as it is devoured. Space is fun to draw.

Its been a productive week. Working on my characters. Its nice to spend a few hours on a piece like this.

Dead Computer

Another quick one. Working loose is so much more fun than trying to be tight and seamless with every line. It allows the line to do things you hadn't planned for. It gives the piece an energy that is closer to a traditional work. I find I go through phases of working in different styles. Entering a sketchy phase I suppose.

Mosquito Bender

I was sick of being precise and meticulous with my lines. Decided to do a sketchy loose comic.

My Pal Yeti #2

This is a rework of one of the first pieces I had done after purchasing my tablet. The differences in approach and execution are interesting. Its that time of year again, snow is on its way here in New Hampshire. More experimenting, learning new things with each piece, finding what works for me and what doesn't.
